IBT and CBT are two different test formats used majorly in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Meanwhile, IBT stands for Internet-Based Test, while CBT stands for Computer Based Test. The two formats or kinds of tests have to do with the computer, but they actually have some differences between them. CBT was discovered to be an advanced form of the PBT, that is, a Paper Based Test, while IBT is the upgraded or newer version of the CBT.
The computer-based test, therefore, has been in use until the introduction of the internet-based test in the year 2005. The computer-based test was fully discarded in the year 2006, and the internet-based took over fully. The IBT also has the same test processes with the CBT. The processes or stages of language include writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Hence, just like the CBT, you will be taken through the same stages of language test in IBT.
