Parents often get confused while choosing the right early childhood education program for their child. Whether to opt forMontessori Daycare in Surreyor pick atraditional Junior kindergarten in Surrey always remains a tough question. There are so many preschoolsin Surrey BCoffering traditional and Montessori-based education programs, in order to determine what is best for your child let’s first perceive the meaning of these two educational methods and then understand the difference between both of them.

  1. The Classroom Environment-

Montessori classroom isdesigned to facilitate independent learning and exploration. It is a spacious, tidy, open, peaceful, simple, and respectful environment where tones are muted and visualization is minimal. Every element used in the Montessori classroom exists for a purpose and helps in the development of a child. The curriculum covers practical life areas, sensorial, mathematics, language, and cultural teachings.

The traditional classroom is a teacher-centric synchronousenvironmentthat focuses on elements like lecturing, story reading, play-based group activities, etc. In a traditional classroom setting the teacher gives face-to-face instructions to children and has face-to-face communication with them. The classroom comprises lots of toys, bright-colored postures, and paintings, playing instruments like board games, blocks, and puzzles.

2. Active v/s Passive Learning-

Montessori lessons arehands-on and active which drives children to actively participate in learning and manifest children’s natural ability to discover things for themselves and find answers to their questions on their own. Students do not need to sit, listen, memorize and take tests.

Traditional learning is based on recitation, memorization, and passive listening through predetermined and limited subjects. Students receive instructions and information from the teacher and are held accountable for grasping whatever is taught to them. This method develops theoretical thinking but completely neglect critical thinking

The main difference between Montessori and regular education is that in the Montessori schools are based on self-directed learning where the students are expected to learn on their own. Proper education has the teachers direct the courses.

It is believed that the students need them to be creative as a way to develop their potential in many different aspects. The most significant difference between the two forms of education is that Montessori provides for the individual needs of the students.

Hence, they come to discover what their true passion is. The other difference is that Montessori does not use intimidation to motivate the students to learn. At the same time, it is typical for regular school to force a particular way of learning onto the students.
