This shows EMC is the older of the two. One of the major differences between the two companies is that EMC is using Storage Area Network (SAN) as its storage, while NetApp uses Local Area Network (LAN) as its storage. Examples of protocols used by NetApp and EMC are iSCSi protocol, fiber channel protocol, etc.
