There are a lot of extensions and formats that are available, so it can be confusing to know them all. PDF stands for Portable Document Format. The main purpose of this is to make sure that the document will be sent in a format that can make it easier to read by people who will be receiving it.
This can make it easier for people to store different documents in just one file. JPEG is a graphic image file. There are some people who may not like JPEG very much as compared to another graphic image file called RAW because it might compress some areas of the image to make it smaller.
