A steroid is an active organic compound with four rings organized in a specific molecular composition. It is a naturally occurring hormone within the body, as it regulates the sex hormones, whereas anabolic steroids have a nefarious reputation for performance enhancement in sports. The use of steroids is often secretive and unregulated. It is a purchase in very much the same way as an illegal drug is bought.

Steroids have a laundry list of side effects that include: the growth of facial hair and incredible muscle growth. Corticosteroids, on the other hand, are used openly and under the watchful eye of the physician. Corticosteroids are safer in general to use. They come from a class of steroid hormones that are produced in the adrenal cortex. Corticosteroids can assist in the treatment of such ailments as arthritis, asthma, allergies, lupus, and other types of chronic inflammatory conditions.
