Ancient Greek refers to the Athenian's classical language. The ancient Greek happens to be a language that has been in vogue during the Hellenistic, classic, and archaic periods. It can be traced to as far back as the second century BC. When it comes to Modern Greek, it is based basically on Demotic.

Another name that Modern Greek is known for is Neo-Hellenic or Romaic. Modern Greek actually became popular after the Byzantine Empire was declined in the year 1453. The ancient Greek is known to have a rich system of a vowel, while the Modern Greek has a simple system of only five vowels.

There was a clear distinction of length in consonants and vowels in the ancient Greek, while this has not been conserved in the Modern Greek. The operative mood, infinitive, dual number, and dative class that was prevalent in the ancient Greek have been given up in the Modern Greek.

Ancient and Modern Greek are two descriptions of Greek languages that were used at different times in Greece. The language of Ancient Greek was used during the time of Ancient Greece. This time period occurred during the 9th century BC and lasted until the 6th century Ad.

This time period occurred between the classical period and the Hellenistic period. When it comes to Modern Greek, this came into play after the Byzantine Empire, which happened in 1453.

Between the two, Ancient Greek is a more classical language. It had a larger vowel system. Modern Greek is more simple and has fewer vowels.

Ancient Greek includes the characteristics of the Greek language used in Ancient Greece and the ancient realm from the 9th century BC to the 6th century AD. It is separated by the classical period (4th and 5th centuries) and the Hellenistic period 3rd century BC to 4th AD. It was after the decline of the Byzantine Empire in 1453 that modern Greek came into play. The traces of modern elements in the language could be demonstrated even from the third century.

Modern Greek is based on Demotic. Ancient Greek was a language that was promoted during the Archaic classic and Hellenistic periods. Ancient Greek can be traced back to the second century BC. Ancient Greek was the classical voice of the people. It boasted an impeccable vowel system. On the other hand, modern Greek possesses only a simple system that consists of only five vowels. It has ceased the traditional speech of its ancient predecessor.
