There are a few helpful strategies for sticking to your New Year's resolutions. One of these includes the punishment/reward system, in which if you follow through with your resolutions, you reward yourself, and if not, you take something away. It may be difficult and stressful for many people to stick to, considering the fact that a lot of times, your rewards contradict what you are trying to do with your resolutions.
For example, if you are running and exercising to get fit and healthy, then rewarding yourself with a big bowl of ice-cream after your workout is probably a bad idea. However, you can reward yourself after exercising by treating yourself with a yummy smelling body wash or a new jogging outfit to keep you motivated.
