Podcasting was developed as an audio medium in the 1980s. The inception of broadband internet and portable digital audio playback devices called iPods and podcasting began to take the world by storm in late 2004. These podcasts are, most of the time, free to the listener and are readily available to the listener. Before the cultivation of the worldwide web, RCS (radio computing services) provided talk associated programming and music to radio stations in a digital format.
Before the internet and online downloading, MIDI format, as well as Mbone, Multicast Network was utilized to distribute video and audio files. The jukebox and websites were the early providers of sorting through and picking out music until the internet reached it’s prime.
