The insectivores are known to be those that would have toxic saliva. They have this type of saliva because their salivary glands are somewhat different from other animals. They have larger granular submaxillary glands, and this is where the toxic saliva comes from. The platypus is an example of an animal that has toxic saliva.

Humans who have experienced the pain from the venom say that the pain is excruciating, but it also cannot be removed by morphine. The shrew also has toxic saliva, which it normally uses in order to immobilize some small animals. The cone snail is also another example of an animal that has toxic saliva. It would also use the toxic saliva to stop its prey from moving.
