Some people refer to the winter solstice as a midwinter. This is the time when the earth’s poles will be in a tilt that is far away from the sun. The winter solstice happens during the wintertime, which is only fitting because winter usually means longer nights as compared to summer that will have more daytime.
This will be the complete opposite for those who are living on the northern side of the earth. For them, after the winter solstice, the days will become longer, and the nights will be shorter. People will always have different views about the solstice. Some would use it as a chance to pay homage to the sun or the moon.
Winter solstice happens when one of the earth's poles is tilted furthest away from the sun. It happens two times per year, once in the southern hemisphere and once in the northern hemisphere. For each region, the winter solstice is the day that has the shortest amount of daylight and the longest night of the year.
Whereas in the southern hemisphere, the reverse is true, where the shortest day of the year happens in June. At the pole, there is uninterrupted darkness or somber twilight around this time of year. The winter solstice marks the beginning of astrophysical winter. During the winter solstice, it appears as though the sun is fixed on the horizon.
Winter solstice, also known as midwinter or hibernal solstice, is the period of the year when the Earth's pole tilts away from the Sun and the Sun's maximum elevation in the sky is at its lowest. At this time of the year, we get the least amount of sunlight. Winter solstice occurs two times in a year, once in each hemisphere once in the Northern and once in the Southern hemisphere of the earth.
The winter solstice happens to be a very special moment for thousands of people across the globe. The opposite of winter solstice is known as the summer solstice. During the winter solstice, the Sun travels the shortest path through the sky cause a low amount of sunlight on the earth. In the northern hemisphere, winter solstice happens between the 20th and 23rd of December and in the month of June usually between 20th and 22nd of June in the Southern hemisphere.
The winter solstice is known to be the shortest day of the year. This is the time when the North Pole will be faced farthest away from the sun, which means that the day will be so much shorter as compared to usual. Some people feel that this is an event that is worth celebrating. Some people celebrate it in order to commemorate the “rebirth” of the sun.
There are some people who love celebrating this because they feel that this is the time when the moon is at its strongest. Most people will experience Winter Solstice this coming December 21, but in some parts of the world, it will be December 22. It will highly depend on people’s location when they are going to experience it.
