Ayodhya is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Sri Ram, which is one of the most revered deities in Hindu. The Hindu built a temple called Ayodhya Ram Mandir, which was dedicated to Lord Ram.
After some time, Mir Baqi, who was a Mughal Commander, destroyed the temple built by the Hindu and built a Mosque in the place. The mosque is known as Babri Mosque. The mosque was destroyed in December 1992 during a riot.
This caused a big dispute between the Hindus and Muslims. This dispute has been on for decades.
In 2010, the Allahabad High Court ruled a three-way division of the Ayodhya land dispute. However, On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court announced the verdict of the holy site. The Hindus would get the entire disputed 2.77 acres in Ayodhya.
A lot of Hindus believe Lord Rama belongs to the city. This has prompted them to build a temple that would show their worship for the Lord. They called this temple Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Then there were some issues that started to arise when Mir Baqi, the general of King Babur, decided to destroy the holy monument. In its place, the Babri Mosque was erected instead. This has obviously enraged a lot of people.
There were approximately about 2000 people who were killed. This place was very important for the Hindus because they believe that this is really the place where the Lord Sri Rama ruled. They also believe that this is the place where Lord Vishnu was incarnated.
Ayodhya was one of the holiest cities, where religious faiths of Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Jainism all served to teach their followers about coming together for a higher purpose. In 1992, approximately hundreds and thousands of Kar Sevak destroyed Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
Two thousand people were massacred in the riots across India. The use of the land was to worship Lord Ram. In the sixteenth century under Baben’s rule, the temple dedicated to Ram at his birth site is known to be destroyed and a mosque erected in its place.
The history of Ayodhya stops at the point of the opening of the locks of Babri Masjid. He had destroyed the temple.
