Hindu mobs destroyed Babri Masjid in 1992, and this violence led to chaos that India's Muslims will not soon forget. In place of Babri Majid, there are now three structures in the town, and these buildings resemble the original mosque.

The first of the three mosques, ‘Masjid Begum Bairas,' is situated next to the premises of Maharaja Inter College, and the royal family of Ayodhya owns it. A madrassa, or school, is also run at this mosque. The next is named Masjid Begum Balraspur, and this one is placed in the Darshan Nagar section in Ayodhya.

The third Masjid Mumtaz Shah-‘is is in Mumtaznagar on Lucknow Road. All of these mosques are operational. Anybody who has seen the Babri Majid would agree that these three structures bear a striking resemblance to the original.
