This year, Veteran’s Day was on the second Monday in November. The federal holiday commemorates the fallen heroes of war, as it takes place on November 11th every year in the United States. President Woodrow Wilson made November 11th as the first acknowledgment of Armistice Day. In 1938, Congress passed a law that made November 11th a legal holiday.

In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill that changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veteran's Day. The holiday fell on the fourth Monday in October throughout the 1970s. President Gerald Ford signed a bill that changed it back to November 11th in 1978. Veteran's Day honors all those who bravely served in the military.
