The correct answer to this question is No. Terminator: Dark Fate is not the sequel to Genisys. Emilia Clarke, who was in Genisys, made it known that she would not return for any sequel. With that, the movie studios made it known that any sequel ideas had been removed.

In Dark Fate, the original Sarah Conor, Linda Hamilton, returns to reprise her role. Being that she has come back to reprise her role, it has changed the storyline, making Dark Fate not a followup to Genisys. Both of these movies have different Sarah Conor actors portraying them and different stories.

No. Terminator: Dark Fate is not a sequel to Genisys. Emilia Clarke, who featured in Terminator Genisys as Sarah Conor, refused in her speech in April 2016 to return for any sequel. So, when paramount was set to release the 2017 schedule series, they made it known in January 2016 that the sequel has been removed. In the Terminator: Dark Fate, Linda Hamilton features again in her role as Sarah Conor. So as to ignore the continuation of the previous series, and reboot the franchise, Terminator: Dark Fate has refused to follow sequel with the Terminator: Genisys, Terminator: Salvation and Terminator 3.

James Cameron, who happens to be one of the writers of the movie, considers the Terminator: Dark Fate as a sequel to The Terminator, which was released in 1984 and Terminator 2: The Judgement Day. But the other series of the terminator movie, such as the Terminator: Salvation (2009), Terminator 3: Rise of the machines (2003), The Sarah Conor Chronicles (2008-2009), and The Terminator Genisys (2015) are actually of the different storyline.

No, the new Terminator movie will not be a sequel to Terminator Genisys. Rather, it would tackle some concepts that are more familiar with the audience who have loved the Terminator series from the olden days. Some say that this is the attempt of the movie to make the Terminator franchise popular again.

Some people did not like the newer Terminator movies because they felt that it was going against what they have followed in the past. Some people are happy with this, but it is yet to be seen if people would be happy with the new installment to the Terminator movie series in general. The fact that some of the major characters have returned is already a plus for the movie.

No, Terminator: Dark Fate is not a sequel to Genisys. The new sequel, Terminator: Dark Fate, is set to ignore the plot in sequels: Terminator 3, Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys. I believe this was done to reboot the franchise because Terminator 3 up to Terminator: Genisys was poorly received, and they were not successful at the box office.

Terminator: Dark Fate (the new sequel) is set to be after the Terminator 2: Judgement Day(1992), which was the second movie in the franchise. The new movie is set to have cast in the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Edward Furlong. The movie also co-stars Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna, and Diego Boneta.
