A broker is a mediator or an agent that is involved in the exchange of transactions. Before online trading became popular, brokers served as the middlemen in the stock market. This is because individual investors had no direct access to the market.

Orders were placed through licensed brokers, and in return, brokers often charge high commissions — a broker purchases financial products on behalf of another person. An advisor, on the other hand, offers financial advice, which includes guidance on investment.

They work by assessing the financial record of a client, accessing the goals of the client, and they help to determine when it is best to set an asset for investment. Unlike brokers, advisors work on a fee basis, and they do not charge additional fees or commissions on sales of financial products.

The difference between a broker and an advisor is that a broker is a commercial agent who works as a salesman, while an advisor does not sell products. A broker is concerned with the sale of annuity products and insurance policies. They do not receive payment for their advice. On the other hand, advisors work for clients and get paid for the assistance they give to customers.

Brokers are the only salesman. They get paid when their product is sold, whereas advisors provide uninterrupted services to maintain the business of their clients. Advisors will inform clients with the lowest expense ratio and no commission, while a broker knows what is in the best interest of his client, who is a leader and recommends a more generous fund.

Some people may assume that a broker and an advisor are the same, but they have different roles in helping people. An advisor will provide the needed details regarding the planning and managing stages of investing while the broker will be in charge of making the investments for the person.

Most people do not know how to invest, and while they may read more to find more details, hiring professionals will help them understand details faster and easier. You will be given some options by the advisor regarding where you can invest your money while the broker will be in charge of telling you details regarding the potential investments that you can make.
