A habit is something that you may or may not realize. For example, you have a habit of drinking water in the morning. This is something that you consciously do, and this is part of your routine. You may also bite your nails. This is a habit that you may not consciously know.

An addiction is something that you do that you cannot live without anymore. For example, you are addicted to gambling. You are willing to sacrifice all of your belongings, all of the things that you have invested just to fuel your addiction. Being addicted to something, especially a vice, will always have negative results.

How do you know if what you are doing is just a habit or an addiction? These two may seem similar, but they have some differences that you ought to know. One difference is the amount of time that you will spend to correct or form the habit. For example, you have a habit of twirling your hair around your finger.

Being conscious of this and making sure that it will not happen will make you break out of the habit immediately. When you have an addiction, you will encounter a lot of negative feelings while trying to get rid of the addiction. You may experience some withdrawals, and you will definitely have mood swings that will not be felt if you are just trying to break a habit.
