When you say resign, this means that you are removing yourself from your position or your title. When you say re-sign, this means that you will be signed on again for a particular project or even a job. There are some people who resign because they are not happy with their work anymore, or they feel that their full potential is not being utilized in the job that they are handling.

People re-sign, however, when they feel that the organization that they are working for can help them improve their strengths and capabilities. These two should not be confused with each other because it can be quite embarrassing when people assume wrongly when the two terms are used incorrectly.
