The given words Gothic, turret, and vandal originated from various histories across the world. The word Gothic was from the word Goth that means the ancient German people or of the Goths and used as early as 1610. It was then used by 17th-century scholars to describe the art style from northern Europe in the Middle Ages.

Turret comes from the Old French word, torete, that means tower in a city wall and was first used in the 1300s. The word vandal originated from the name of a German tribe, Vandals, that means destroyer of what is beautiful thus the word vandalism implies.
