What are the causes of autism?

Autism is a disorder that does not have a specific cause. For example, those who are diagnosed with dengue are aware that the disease has come from an infected female mosquito. For those who are diagnosed with autism, there is no known actual cause. There are, however, some factors that may increase the risk of children getting autism.

For example, having an immediate family with autism may increase the chances of a child being autistic too. There are also some genetic disorders that may lead to this condition. Some say that being born to older parents will increase the risk of being born with autism. The environment can also be a factor in the development of autism in individuals, especially those who are exposed to heavy metals and toxins.
