The six classes of food are carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and oils, and water. The carbohydrates are foods that supply energy to the body. They are usually referred to as energy-giving food. Examples are the cereals and root crops generally, such as rice, wheat, yam, cassava, and so on. The proteins are responsible for the growth of the body, and they are popularly referred to as body-building food. Examples include legumes, animal products, such as beans, milk, meats, etc. Vitamins are essential for repairing body tissues and also provide necessary nutrients to fight against antibodies.
