There has been some controversy over who originated the actual concept of philosophy. Most schools of thought conclude that there are three fathers of Western Philosophy. Greek philosophers Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, are considered to have made the most important and influential impact on the notion of philosophy.

The man who came before these three, whom some consider to be the first and most important, is named Thales of Miletus.

He was an ancient Greek philosopher and the father of Western philosophy. He is the first person to use organic explanations for natural occurrences rather than turning to the supernatural or the spirit world. His example was epitomized by other Greek thinkers who embraced the philosophy and its teachings.

Most of the time, when a question like this is asked, people tend to go for Socrates. The truth is there was someone like Thales of Miletus who is more qualified to receive the title. Thales of Miletus was born many years before Socrates. He was a philosopher, mathematician, and even an astronomer. His sets are usually regarded as pre-Socratic philosophers. Thales of Miletus was named the father of philosophy because he seriously searched for so many things that provided explanations to a lot of natural phenomena.

Philosophers of this time were known for questions like; ''how does this come into being?'', ''what explanation can we give to the plurality of things found in nature?'’, etc. However, the father of western philosophy goes to Socrates. He was known for being a philosopher that gave explanations for most things that are still relevant till today. Also, he was able to raise many philosophers like Alcibiades and Plato.
