When you begin a resistance training program, which would occur first - an increase in muscle size or an increase in muscle strength?

Increase in strength

When you begin resistance training, you are not only training the muscle fibres but also the neural connections, these connections adapt faster than muscle tissue and so an increase in strength will occur before the muscle itself gains in size. It takes about 8 weeks for a noticeable increase in muscle size to occur.
