Some people are confused between the viceroy and the monarch butterfly because they somewhat look the same. The monarch butterfly and the viceroy come with almost the same colorations, but they also have some differences when it comes to size, the way that they fly, and the shade of the orange that can be found on their wings.

The orange color of the wings of the viceroy is a bit darker as compared to the wings of the monarch butterfly. You can tell which is which when you see them both flying. The monarch butterfly is very graceful and will have the ability to fly properly. The viceroy will flap its wings in a fast manner.

At first glance, the monarch and viceroy butterflies look identical. This is because they share many similarities such as the shape of their wings and coloration. However, careful observation of both butterflies will show that they are not the same. Viceroys are much smaller than monarchs. If you look closely at the hind wing of the Viceroy butterfly, you will notice that there is a distinct black line that crosses the postmedian part of the hind wing.

Viceroy is about 2 to 4 inches in size. Monarch butterflies are much bigger. Monarch buttery wings range between 3 to 5 inches. Their flight pattern is also a notable difference. Monarch butterflies are likely to float and glide while viceroy is likely to flap its wings to move faster usually in an erratic manner. Hope you find this information helpful.

The viceroy and the monarch butterfly may seem the same at first glance, but there are some differences that will set one apart from the other. The viceroy seems to have a black line that is placed on its hind wings while the monarch butterfly does not have this line. There is also a slight difference with the size of these two butterflies. Even the caterpillars of these two butterflies are known to be different from each other.

It is important to not come across the monarch butterfly because it is toxic while the viceroy is not poisonous. Some animals make a mistake, and they suffer the consequences of their action.

There are a lot of people who think that the Monarch butterfly and the Viceroy are the same, but they have some differences that will allow you to know which one you are looking at. When it comes to size, the viceroy butterfly is smaller than the Monarch butterfly.

Both types of butterflies are orange and black, but if you would look closely, the shades of orange of the viceroy butterfly are darker as compared to the Monarch butterfly. If you would look at these two butterflies from a distance, you will see that the way they fly is also different from each other. Monarch butterflies will usually fly faster as compared to the monarch butterfly.
