When did LA Tomatina start?

La Tomatina started in the year 1945. The date was August 29, 1945. According to some reports, this started for different reasons. Right now, people do it in order to have a tomato fight with each other but back then; this was started in order for people to show that they were unhappy with some of the city councilmen who were doing things that they feel will not improve their town.

The townspeople threw tomatoes at the councilmen. Needless to say, the councilmen were not very amused by what happened. There was even a time when this was banned for a while, but people were able to make this festival become celebrated again.
