Being a makeup artist does not require any formal education. But it takes some years of formal education to be able to work as a cosmetologist. As a matter of fact, a person that studied cosmetology has the license to be a cosmetologist. A makeup artist is usually trained, and they are only involved in facial makeup alone. Cosmetologists, on the other hand, are learned people, and they are involved in the doing of hair, nails, and skin. Makeup artists do not get involved, and they'll not be able to deliver when it comes to hairstyling and nail care.

A makeup artist can get himself or herself involved in studying a course, but it will not grant any license but just a certificate to show the validity of the course. The cosmetologist undergoes professional courses which grant him a certified license to practice. Nevertheless, makeup artists are used with the fashion and glamour industry, while the cosmetologists are not taught that, but they can always learn on their own.

Cosmetologists have more experience with the treatment, therapies, and best practices correlated to the skin, nails, and hair care. There are also courses for makeup artists, but these are more focused on practical knowledge of beauty. Cosmetology courses are very intense, and a license is needed to practice the craft.

A makeup artist is someone who can change the way that people look with the use of makeup. Some are particularly good at doing this. Some people are not just able to enhance the appearance of the people; they are actually able to change the way that people look.

Of course, this is only temporary, the moment that the makeup comes off, people will start to look the way that they always do. A cosmetologist is someone who has taken a cosmetology course. They will be in charge of changing people’s hair, nails, and skin. They will be trained to use certain machines in order to make the skin smoother and so much more.
