Proteins are combinations of amino acids; that is, the chains of amino acids make up protein; while amino acids in the body are the building blocks of protein. Proteins are formed by the bonding together of amino acids, neurotransmitters, enzymes, and some hormones. Twenty-two amino acids are considered proteinogenic or as standard amino acids. Eight of these are essential for the human body as they can be consumed by food, while others cannot be produced by the human body.

Amino acids are also considered important in biochemistry and for nourishment. One or supplementary polypeptides make up proteins, and their appearances are naturally formed to be spherical in shape. A polypeptide is formed by a single bonding of carboxyl and amino acids to form linear polymer chains. The chemists that revealed the first amino acid are Pierre Jean Robique and Louis Nicholas Vauquelin. Gerardus Johannes Mulder, a German chemist, was the man that illustrated the existence of protein, and Jöns Jacob Berzelius gave it its name in the year 1838.

Amino acids are fundamental building blocks of all proteins, and to make up a protein, amino acids combine as long chains through peptide linkages. Protein is one of the three macronutrients imperative for our overall health and well-being. All three are needed in a balanced ratio. Proteins are essential for the substantial growth of bones during developmental years, during pregnancy, and later to provide nourishment to our bones and teeth.

The entire operating system of the human body is made up of proteins in the form of enzymes and hormones, and protein deficiency may lead to many problems. Some natural sources of proteins are meat, eggs, green leafy veggies, milk, and other dairy products. The kind of protein made up by a particular group of amino acids is reliant on the acid existing in these amino acids. Many amino acids join together to make up protein.

As we learned in science or health classes growing up, the building blocks of all proteins are the amino acids. However, that does not mean that amino acids and proteins are the same. Instead, there are differences between the make-up of amino acids and proteins, even though they are very connected and related to one another. There are three macronutrients that people need, and proteins are one of them.

The acid that is apart of the amino acids plays a significant role in the type of protein. This acid means that it tells the type of protein that makes up the certain amino acids. When several different amino acids come together, they could make a certain protein. Proteins are considered to be in meat and dairy products.
