The X Factor is a Fox sponsored singing competition that features Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul as judges. It rewards the winner with a generous recording contract for five million dollars and a starring role in a Pepsi commercial which will air at this year's Super Bowl. American Idol is only open to solo singers, but duos and groups are also welcomed to compete in the competition.

X-Factor is also flashier and more glamourous than American Idol.

There are a lot of differences between American Idol and X-Factor. First of all, American Idol is only open to singers who are willing to sing solo. In X-Factor, people can sing in groups or duos. They can do what they feel will be best for their chances of winning and getting the top prize.

While in X-Factor, the youngest contestant that can join is 12 years old and even those who are already 80 years of age can join too. These two shows have very high viewership in different parts of the world. Some franchises have also been made.

Reality tv, especially those that involve a singing competition, has become very popular over the last ten to fifteen years. Two main competitions that have been around for quite a long time are American Idol and X Factor. Both have hired very famous judges who have been in the music industry for a long time and have a household name. However, the premises of each show are the same.
