What is the difference between Album and Album Artist?

Two most important properties that usually come with audio files are Album and Album artist. The difference between both album and album artist can be understood very easily. Album means a group of audio recordings, on any medium, intended for distribution as a group. It contains different types of tracks which are played one after the other. All these tracks or recordings can be named separately, but they will still be grouped under a name as a complete album.

Album artist, on the other hand, is simply the name of the artist that produced the album. Most times, an artist can decide to produce an audio recording by collaborating with other artists. In this case, the name of the artist, together with other artists, are listed. And at times, all the tracks in an album might not be sung by a single artist. The name of the album is very easy to figure out, whereas an album artist can take a while, especially when two or more artists are involved.
