What is the difference between Black and English Walnuts?

The English walnuts and black walnuts are both belonging to the genus juglans. The English walnuts are also referred to as Persian walnuts, and they originated in Persia, whereas the black walnuts have their origin in the United States. The English walnut is usually known for its edible nuts, while black walnut is known to be grown for its wood and nutmeat, which is widely used as extracts or flavoring. On comparing their shells, the black walnut has a thin and soft shell, which makes it easier to break, and it is usually green in color.

The English walnut, on the other hand, has a thick and hard shell, which makes it be harder to break. English walnut is used in baking and making of ice cream because of its good flavor. Whereas, black walnut is known for its strong-smelling odor. The black walnut meat is also hard to detach from its shell because the shell grows into the meat, but it is easier to separate the meat from the shell of an English walnut.
