The term ''selfie'' has become so popular today that most people do not bother to inquire about how this trend started. It is amazing how people will buy into a particular idea without making necessary steps towards knowing some things about it. The concept of the word ''selfie'' is something that started a long time ago. It should be noted that selfie wasn't invented by our generation; we only made it very popular through the use of different social media platforms.

The first selfie ever was taken by an American by the name Robert Cornelius in 1839. Although the term 'selfie' did not originate from him, the self-portrait photograph he took is everything a selfie represents. Also, the word 'selfie' was first documented in September 2002; when an Australian man by the Nathan Hope took to a website to celebrate his birthday with pictures that had the caption ''sorry about the focus, it was a selfie.''
