Diabetes and hyperglycemia are often thought to be the same but they really are different from one another. Hyperglycemia is the condition when the blood sugar level in the blood is abnormally high that is usually above 150 mg/dL after a few hours of consuming food. Diabetes, on the other hand, is a disease wherein the cells in the body become resistant to insulin or the pancreas does not produce insulin.

The symptoms of hyperglycemia are frequent urination, fatigue, weight loss, vision problems, nausea, and excessive thirst. The symptoms of diabetes include extreme hunger, fruity-smelling breath, abdominal pain, dry skin, shortness of breath, and rapid breathing in addition to the symptoms of hyperglycemia as well.
