Ocean and Lake are two types of water bodies. Oceans are arguably the largest water bodies on earth. What divides all the continents on the planet earth are oceans. Examples of oceans are the Arctic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean. One of the many characteristics of the ocean is that water from the ocean is very salty, and it houses a lot of marine animals. Also, oceans are very deep; an average ocean is about 3000 meters deep.

Another thing is that oceans are particularly known for their big waves. Lakes, on the other hand, are also water bodies but they are not as big as oceans. Unlike oceans which contain a high density of salt, lakes, on the other hand, are freshwater. Also, lakes are not as deep as oceans. Unlike oceans which have big waves, lakes do not form big waves. While there are about four known oceans, there are scores of lakes.
