Tuxedo and dinner jackets are collections and articles of clothing. They are categorized as men's formal evening dress. The major difference between these two collections of men's dress is where they are being worn and where they originated from. The clothing 'tuxedo' is used and worn mainly in North America like Canada and the United States, while the same dress is referred to as 'dinner jacket' and worn in the United Kingdom. Dinner jacket referred to something else equivalent to the white evening jacket in the United States.

The tuxedo and dinner jacket was birthed in the United Kingdom. It was designed by a tailor for royalty to replace tailcoat, which was the most formal wear for men then. The American copied this style and introduced it to North America. Tuxedo is also referred to as tuxedo jacket, tuxedo coat or tux, while the term 'dinner jacket' referred to the jacket with the trouser.
