There is a distinct difference between the two terms. The main difference is that use refers to the act of using or state of being used for a purpose whereas usage refers to an accepted and routine practice or the traditional manner in which vocabulary or a form of language is spoken or written. Use is both a verb and a noun. The verb use means of accomplishing or achieving something. Usage is similar to employ or utilize. Use as a noun is an action of using something or the state of being used. It is the value or the purpose or the benefit of something. Usage as a noun is used primarily concerning a language. It is only used in certain instances.
