WLAN and LAN are the same with regards to what they can do which is to allow different gadgets to connect to the internet. You will use the LAN when you want to connect your laptop your gadget directly to the router so that you can get a fast connection. Just make sure that you have the right cable and this will be very easy to use.

WLAN is different because it is wireless. This means that you will be able to connect to the internet source without the cable. You will just search for the network, connect to it, make sure that you will input the right password, and you will already be connected to the internet.

WLAN is the wireless version of the LAN and is usually preferred by a lot of households and commercial spaces now because of the benefits that it can provide over the cabled LAN. Some routers can offer both WLAN and LAN connections.
