Phonics and phonemic awareness are two instructional approaches which help in the study of English Language. Phonics is one of the methods or approaches of teaching, which allows the learner on how to read the English language. It deals majorly with linking of letters or groups of alphabetical letters together, and it is the fundamental foundation of learning to read the English language effectively. Phonics also encourages the blending together of letter sounds to be able to pronounce the difficult words.

Concerning phonemic awareness, the concept of phonological awareness has to be understood before one can realize phonemic awareness. This has to do with one's understanding and keen sensitivity to quickly capture the structure of languages sound. It is one of the most fundamental foundations of learning speech and very essential in improving in terms of the literacy and fluency of the language in view. A learner with phonemic awareness does not need visual and written materials to know the sound of words.
