What is the difference between Nerd and Geek?

The terms "Nerds" and "Geeks" emerged between the 1940s and 1950s, and these stereotypes have been going haywire since then. These terms are used in high schools, and the Geeks count it an insult to be referred to as Nerds. Also, the Nerds tend to take offense when approached as Geeks. Nerd was first seen as jargon in a book titled "If I ran a zoo" by Dr. Seuss, in the year 1950. After which it later came to be used in association with fashion blindness, social ineptitude, and bookishness.

The word "Geek" was formed originally from the Middle English word "freak," it has similar roots in Dutch and German. It was formally used to refer to performers of carnivals but now refers to someone who focuses on a single area of study, and enjoys it putting in great interest and energy. While Geeks often confine themselves to music, video games, movies, and computer, Nerds deal with science fiction and technology.
