Pancakes and pikelets look similar; the main ingredients used in their preparation are the same. These include flour, milk, and egg, but their appearances, texture, and sizes are quite different. Pikelets are either eaten cold or hot in countries like Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, and many others, while pancakes are eaten in countries like America, Germany, France, and many others. Pancakes are usually served hot, and taken at breakfast time.

The serving time might change depending on the location or region where one lives. Pancakes vary in sizes from 2 to 12 inches in diameter; while traditionally, pikelets have prepared to be between 3-4 inches in diameter. Pikelets are heavy; but pancakes are light, thin, and flat. Pikelets are served with a variety of toppings like fruits, syrups, jams.
