If you have a hardwood floor, you may find yourself sliding across it if you walk across it in your socks. You may be inclined to put down a rug. Another idea would be to cover the hardwood floors with carpet completely. Although I don’t recommend putting carpet over hardwood, it would be up to you. Rugs and carpets are made from mainly from the same material.

They also may appear the same, but the critical difference between a rug and carpet is the size of it. Rugs usually only cover a portion of the floor. You should be able to see underneath it. Also, rugs range in size from very small to large. However, carpet is usually placed across the entire floor.
