Xeon and i7 are two different kinds of process manufactured by Intel. Xeon is a brand of x86 microprocessor designed and manufactured by Intel. This processor was introduced in June 1998. It has a maximum CPU clock rate between 1.20GHZ to 4.80GHz. Xeon processor can handle more workload than their i7 counterparts. It has a higher maximum core count. Compared to i7 processors, the Xeon processor has a lower clock rate and it does not support overclocking. It also lacks an integrated GPU.

Xeon processors have support for Error Correcting Code (ECC) memory. i7 processor manufactured by Intel is considered Intel’s “performance” CPU processors. You may be asked a question concerning whether you want to use Xeon or i7. You may not know the difference between these two platforms. If you are like me, you have no idea, but you want a quick answer so that you can start using your computer.

The i7 has three main benefits over the Xeon which are overclocking with higher speeds as well as GHz per dollar and on board graphics. That is not to say that Xeon doesn’t have benefits because they do including longevity, support for ECC Ram and L3 cache.
