What is the difference between a Hub, a Spoke, and a Point to Point?

Some people may become confused with some terms because they assume that these terms are similar to each other. The hub and spoke and point to point can both be found in different airline networks. These names are taken from that of the bicycle which probably explains why the terms used are familiar.

The hub and spoke is the type of network wherein the passengers are transported between two different hubs. The point to point is the type of route wherein it is only the origin and the destination are the only two things that are focused on by the airlines. There are different airlines that will offer these two types of networks.
