For many, water-resistance and waterproof sound the same, but in all true sense, there are not. Water-resistance means an object can resist the penetration of water to some degree. This means when water goes on it; water doesn’t break down to seep in.
However, if exposed to for an extended period, it will be hard for the object to resist water. Waterproof, on the other hand, means water cannot penetrate the object. This prevents water from getting into the object even if exposed to water for a long period.
Some people have assumed that water resistant waterproof are the same. They are not. Water resistant means that it will have the ability to resist the penetration of water for a certain period of time but if the object would be more exposed to water, it will already be hard for the material to resist water.
Waterproof means that it will have the ability to resist water for extended periods of time. If you would leave a waterproof object on the water for a long time, water will still not be able to penetrate it. There are different items that can be waterproof or water resistant such as cameras, watches, and even shoes.
