Capitalism and consumerism are known to work hand in hand together, but they are different from each other. Consumerism is known to be the belief of people that to be happy, they would need to spend a lot of money. They would spend it on the food that they think they deserve or the clothes and other items that are considered to be more expensive than usual.

The more that they can afford these things, the happier that they will be. Capitalism is said to be the process of convincing people that they need certain items even when they do not. This is said to make a lot of people materialistic because they assume that they need things to live more comfortable and pleasant lives.
