The correct answer to this question is Budget deficit. The dictionary defines the budget deficit as the amount in which the goverment exceeds in come from in a single year. This excession can come from things like taxes and custom duties.

To simplify the term, a budget deficit is a loss during a year and this loss comes from expenses exceeding revenue. In 2018, the budget deficit was around 800 billion. This is about 4% of the GDP. It goes without saying that this is a high amount of debt. Many point blame to the tax cut, which the Republicans were responsible for.
