There is no real difference between AED and a Defibrillator. Both machines are used in administering electrical shock to the heart of a person experiencing heart-related problems. People with this type of health condition are prone to situations in which their hearts will cease to function properly. At this point, AED or a defibrillator is needed to send electrical shocks to the heart in order to start working perfectly. AED means Automated External Defibrillator, which means, it is an example of different types of all known defibrillator.

AED is used for people who are experiencing heart problems like cardiac arrest and others, to send electrical shocks to the heart. AED, unlike another defibrillator, can be handled non-medical professional in times of emergency. There are other types of defibrillator which can work perfectly like AED. They include, internal and external manual defibrillator, semi-automated external defibrillator. Invariably, AED is just a type of defibrillator.
