Ska and Reggae are considered to be genres of music in Jamaica. Reggae is the term used to describe most of the music produced in Jamaica. Ska seems to be similar to a walking bass line, but the rhythm will just be accentuated. Reggae is known to be a bit slower and cool. Between the two, SKA is considered to be the “older” type of music because this was started in the 1950s.

Reggae began in the year 1960. It is not only the rhythm that is considered to be slower with Reggae, but even the tempo of Reggae is also slower as compared to ska. Ska music usually makes use of a lot of more instruments as compared to Reggae.

SKA and reggae are two types of music deeply loved by Jamaicans. There is no way you would be talking about the first ten popular genre of music in Jamaica that SKA and reggae will not be included. Ska and Reggae differ in some ways. Different instruments are used for ska and reggae, they also differ in the way they sound. One notable difference between the two types of music is that, Ska came earlier before reggae. Ska is a type of music that has been in existence long before reggae was created.

Another difference is that, ska has a rhythm style which is usually followed by playing the bass line. Reggae also has a special rhythm, but its rhythm is a bit slower than that of ska. There is difference in their tempo, ska is a bit faster than ska. Different instruments which can be used while ska is, bass guitar, saxophone, drums and guitar. While you can only use drums, guitar and organ for reggae music.
