The result of glycolysis is pyruvic acid. There are some people who may become confused with this process because they assume that this is a process that will be done to create glucose. This is not the case. Glucose is normally the product that will first be used so that pyruvic acid can be formed.

Pyruvic acid can be very helpful in the sense that it will make sure that energy is properly supplied to the different cells. This is also known as the simplest type of alpha−keto acid. When there is enough oxygen, it can be used for aerobic respiration. If there isn’t enough oxygen, it will be fermented in order to form lactic acid.
