Are you familiar with what a pike and a pickerel are? These are two types of fish that may be similar to each other. The pike is a fish that can grow really long. You can tell if you are looking at a pike when you see that some of the portions of the gills do not have scales. A pickerel, like a pike, is also a long and slender fish but it will not grow as big as the pike.

You will also notice that the gills of the pickerel are fully-scaled. Another thing that you have to look for to be sure which fish you have caught is to find the teardrop-like shape below the eye of the fish. If there is a symbol like this present, this means that you are looking at a pickerel. If there is none, you are looking at a pike.

Pike and Pickerel are two different types of fish. Although they share certain similarities, they are not the same. A pike is also commonly known as Northern Pike. It is a big, long slender fish that can weigh as much as 40 pounds. It grows a lot bigger than the Pickerel. The northern pikes are fully covered with scaled but only the upper portion of the gill cover has scales, and the rest of it doesn’t.

A Pickerel is also called Chain Pickerel. It is also a long slender fish, though it is a lot smaller than the Pike. The entire gill of a Pickerel is covered with scales, unlike that of the Pike. Also, if you look closes at the eye of the Pickerel, you can spot the teardrop mark beneath the eyes.
