The difference between Pyrex and glass is that Pyrex is tempered glass and used for cookwares whereas glass is mostly used for architecture and furniture. Pyrex is made by the low coefficient expansion of borosilicate glass whereas glass is blown and pressed to prepare it for the molding process. For more info, click here to know more about glass.

Pyrex is the brand name for a well-loved heat resistant glassware product, introduced by the Corning company 100 years ago. Today Pyrex is typically utilized in the lab with test tubes, dishes, and beakers. Pyrex is used in the kitchen for baking, stovetop cooking, and utensils, including mixing bowls and storage containers. Pure Glass is not as sturdy as Pyrex because Pyrex is four to six times tougher with a granular breaking pattern.

Regular Glass is not made for abrupt changes in temperature, and Pyrex can tolerate temperature changes, so says their tag line, "from the freezer to the oven, to the table." A glass of all types, including Pyrex, made for baking, can not be used on direct flame or heating sources. There is Pyrex that may be used on top of the stove for cooking and coffee making. The main difference between Pyrex and Glass is that Pyrex is tempered Glass and used for cookware. Glass is used for architecture and furniture.

Glass and Pyrex are partly related because they are of the same composition, but the major difference between them lies in the different processes that lead to both materials. Glass is made with the same material as Pyrex, but the difference is that Pyrex has been subjected to processes like tempering. This makes it be stronger than glass. And it is highly resistant to heat than ordinary glass. Since Pyrex can resist a huge amount of heat, it is mostly used for different types of materials used in the kitchen.

Glass, on the other hand, cannot be used for materials to be used in the kitchen because it can't resist too much heat. Also, when Glass breaks, it breaks into different kinds of shapes, and those pieces can inflict pains on someone if they are matched upon. Pyrex, on the other hand, breaks into a regular shape. Another difference is that; Pyrex is just a brand name for different types of materials made from Glass.

Glass is made of the same ingredients as Pyrex, but they both have different properties. Pyrex is tempered glass, often used in cookware, test tubes, and kitchen accessories. It is made from the expansion of borosilicate glass. Pyrex is stronger than glass becuase it is four to six times harder. It also has a granular breaking pattern. Pyrex is also heat resistant.

It can handle up to 425 degrees, which is why it is used in kitchen tools. Due to this, they can handle any sudden changes in temperature, better than a glass product can. Glass isn't recommended to use on direct flame or sources of heat.
