PPTP and L2TP are known to be VPN security tunneling protocols. These protocols will make sure that the connection will be fast and easy between the different endpoints. Between the two, PPTP is known to be the more secure and trusted option.

There are some providers who would rather want L2TP because the encryption level is going to be higher. The speed is a bit lower for the L2TP too. It is best that people will check the type of VPN that they need depending on their current needs. For example, those in the medical field may work better when using L2TP. You can use PPTP if you want to improve your personal use.

First, you must know what VPN stands for, which is a virtual private network. PPTP and L2TP are popular virtual private network security tunneling protocols. These protocols establish fast and secure connections between two endpoints. PPTP is the most widely chosen method for running your VPN. Most Internet service providers want L2PT for VPN because the encryption level is higher at 256 bits; however, the speeds are slightly slower the PPTP, which is only 128 bit encrypted.

PPTP and L2TP are two types of VPN Providers. PPTP stands for Point to Point Tunneling Protocol. This is one of the most popular VPN's used to establish networks. L2TP, which stands for Layer 2 Tunnel Protocol, is also a popular method. Most internet providers offer L2TP as an option. PPTP supports up to 128 bit session keys, while L2TP supports up to 256 bit session keys.

Each has their own downside. PPTP is not the most secure VPN provider, but L2TP is much slower than others. Both use different port configurations. PPTP uses GRE and TCP port, while L2TP uses UDP 500, Protocol 50, UDP 1701 and UDP 4500.
